Tiny teaser :: Iceland

October 10, 2009

]Those of you who follow me on twitter know that I’ve just gotten back from a weeklong trip to Iceland. Your pleas for photos (on Facebook) have not gone unnoticed and there are many, many pictures to come. I’ve just finished uploading and backing up everything from the trip and wanted to post a quick little teaser.

We stopped when we saw a group of Icelandic ponies along the side of the road. Unlike the other groups (packs? herds? what do you call a bunch of horses? hmm?) they weren’t behind a fence – much better for picture taking! The writer and I were standing by the side of the road taking pictures when the horses started wandering in our direction. I’m thinking “great!” and the writer’s saying “crap, we’re going to get stampeded!” But no, they were a friendly bunch and spent some time nuzzling us and letting us pet them before they continued on their merry way. This guy seemed to be the lookout – as the pack wandered on, he kept a close eye on us until all his buddies were clear.

It’s hard to put into words what an amazing moment it was but I know that I’ll remember it always. As will the writer, who was immensely glad that we weren’t part of a wild horse stampede. (And yes, I was singing U2’s Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses? for pretty much the rest of the trip.)

    I went to Iceland last year, and found it to be the most stunning place I’ve ever been to. I also came back with some of the best photos I’ve ever taken. If you liked Iceland and have never been the the Interior of Alaska, I would highly suggest it.-Joe
